Send messages and files over LAN

Bassline LAN messenger is a pure peer-to-peer INSTANT MESSENGER running in Windows XP/7/10. Peer-to-peer means that it doesn't require dedicated server or address book setup. Right after installation, you can exchange versatile messages with your coworkers in your office. As its title says, it is a real alternative app for old WinPopup or net send. It uses not only Computer/User/Workgroup name but also IP addresses.

How does it work?

    Using Send Message dialog, you can write and send message
    to multiple recipients in plain text, HTML text or Rich text with embedded object
    with quoted message in Unlimited length with file/folder attachment

    Recipients can be added from presence-aware contact list easily.
    Programmable message is supported with Reminder and Shortcut keys.
    Also message can be generated from command line.

Messaging

     Upon receipt of new message, it pops up and plays Alert sound. According to the settings, Received message can be
    * Ignored
    * Redirected or
    * Auto-replied
    If hyperlink e.g. web URL or email is embedded in the received message, it is underlined to be clickable.
    You can make hard copy of received message using printer button.
    Messages sent/received are saved automatically. They can be browsed whenever you want.
    Important messages are saved into a file on the desktop by one-click
    All the messages can be logged into the files.

Group Chat with HTML support 

The messaging app supports general chat interface similar to common instant messengers. You can invite people through computer/user/workgroup name and IP address. Common chat applications supports only URL link to open web pages. But Bassline LAN chat comes with HTML support. You can write HTML text with bold, italic, various font and size. Also you can copy or drag HTML pages from web browser. Into your chat message, you can embed pictures and articles published on the newspaper web page you're reading.

    Q: How can I suppress notifying message from print server?
    A : Windows NT/2000 or WFW print server sends notifying message. If you don't care about the lost of message from this server, Ignore option would be helpful (Option>Message Control>Ignore message from). If you don't communicate with legacy applications, e.g.  WinPopUp, net send, it is recommended to uncheck option 'View>Settings>Compatibility with legacy applications'.

    Q: Smart message, email address and message boxes aren't loaded. What's wrong?
    A : Press CTRL-0(zero) to check the path where data files are loaded.
    If user data path is specified in options, it has highest priority.
    The default path is application-data-path to support respective users. If application-data-path exists, it has next priority. For backward compatibility, old one is used if data files are located in the old directory where executables are placed or which is specified as start-in in lnk file.

    Q : How can I send a message to the computer turned off or unconnected to network?
        A : Bassline WinPopUp is a server-client application which receives message without remote server. It is the reason why it can respond to message so quickly. But at the same time, it can't receive anything when shut down or unconnected to network. To overcome this inherent shortcoming, 'Sending email' was added. Retransmission of undelivered message via email would help you communicate even when the recipient machines are unreachable.

    Q : Can I predefine groups of users?
        A : Yes, you can make predefined message just by adding recipients in "Define Smart Messages". They can be invoked by specified hot-key or Smart Groups in Send Dialog. If you check "Global" for hot-key, you can open Send Dialog with predefined message without opening main dialog.

    Q : How does it work with 'WinPopup' or 'net send', 'LinPopup' in Linux?
        Version 3.97 or higher
            is fully compatible with these legacy applications
            supports sending to or receiving from user name(logon name)

        Using version 3.43 classic,
            You can send to or receive from WinPopUp.
            Message formats are a little bit different.
            LAN messenger user name doesn't appear in User List.
            Some special characters other than English may not be supported.
            Unable to send to NT logon name or NetWare
    Q : Why messaging is slow in my machine?
        A : If multiple protocols are installed(e.g. NetBEUI or IPX/SPX with TCP/IP), delivery can be delayed by several seconds. Unless it causes invisible user problem, it is highly recommended to use TCP/IP only. 
    Installation of WINS server will help TCP/IP only network and boost the messaging speed. Please refer to MSDN http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/periodic/period00/NetBIOS.htm
    Q : Is supported terminal service or Windows XP multiple user login?
        A : Windows XP supports multiple user logins (User switching). But network communication resource can't be shared by multiple instances of Bassline WinPopUp since its use should be limited to only one per machine. Only first user is served.
